Why can you not legally marry a couple?

A. Independent celebrants do not belong to any religious organisations or belief systems, therefore are unable to legally marry anyone.

What will the ceremony consist of?

Generally, the ceremony will include:

– General welcome and Housekeeping,
– Entrance of Bride/Couple/Groom
– Welcome
– First reading/poem/Song/music/dance
– The story so far
– Second reading/poem/song/music/dance
– Symbolic ritual (If chosen)
– Commitments
– Personal Vows
– Ring exchange
– The Kiss!
– Closing
– Exit

Can we get married anywhere in Scotland?

A. Yes, you can if it is agreed with the Registrar and falls within legal requirements. Some locations may require the landowner’s permission.

Do you do outside ceremonies?

A. Yes, I am happy to deliver ceremonies outside, in forests on top of a hill, in a barn or in the grounds of a castle.

If we are having a themed wedding, would you be happy to dress accordingly?

A. Depending on the theme, I am happy to dress accordingly within limits that are comfortable for me. If not, then I would explain my reasons to you and hopefully they would be understood.

Can you include symbolic rituals in the ceremony?

A. Yes, I include symbolic rituals and would be happy to explore the many options with you when we meet up.
